I’m currently sat on the sofa in a food coma from leftover Sunday dinner (I put wayyyy to much cheese in the cauliflower cheese and now I feel SICK- still it’s better than being at work on a Monday) and thought I’d share a lil’ snippet of the lovely weekend I’ve had, celebrating three amazing years with Danny.
Our anniversary is on the 12th Feb which makes it easier to combine with Valentine’s Day (although I still expect two separate cards!!)
We started off the celebrations by going for a delightful meal on Friday evening, Danny was extra prepared this year and had booked a table well in advance as it was on Valentine’s Day and he thought it would be busy. It wasn’t. We were actually in and out in 45 minutes.
I had tagliatelle and Danny obviously had pizza. He pushed the boat out from his usual plainness and got chicken on top! Of course, he checked to see if it was pink before eating it because he doesn’t trust anyone cooking chicken. Gordon Ramsey could present to him a gourmet chicken dish and every bite would still be getting inspected.

We haven’t had chance to go out for a proper meal lately; renovating the house has took up a lot of our free time so it was nice to unwind and enjoy some quality time (even though the meal was only brief). We had a few drinks round Danny’s parents house afterwards and then chilled at home in front of the log burner watching Skint. A Valentine’s night well spent.
After a well-needed lie in on Saturday morning (I say that like we don’t sleep in most weekends), we headed to Asda for some Sunday dinner prep. We’re still building up kitchen utensils, I didn’t realise how many utensils you forget you need at first. The amount of times I’ve stabbed open tins of beans or soup with a knife before remembering to buy a tin opener is a joke. This time we needed a potato peeler and masher, adult life. We also got some snacks for the night…
We called at Greggs (I used to work at Greggs and seem to eat it 10x more often since leaving, we are literally there most Saturdays) and then headed to Potto for an overnight stay in a cosy little Shepard’s Hut!

We arrived at around 3PM, wanting to make the most of our stay and it was absolutely FREEZING! We, or rather Danny, got the log burner fired up and it wasn’t long before we were nice and toasty playing cards.
I was slightly saddened at first that there were no cows in the fields, (stamped feet and whingey voice activated) as the images when booking the hut showed cows by the fence. However, after about an hour Danny pointed out that there was in fact a small herd of cows coming towards us. I didn’t believe him at first because 90% of the time he’s winding me up, buttttt there they were! “Shoes on, NOW!”
The curious cows later returned at possibly the most ironic time. We were making burgers for tea. It’s as if they knew!!!!

Before spending the rest of the evening in (and on the edge of) the wood fired hot tub, (which was absolutely scorching!!!!) we were greeted by the goodest, waggy tailed boy for some cuddles. He even came back in the morning to say “Goodbye”, the best four legged host.

On Sunday, we had bacon sandwiches before an afternoon of cooking our first Sunday dinner since moving in. It was surprisingly un-stressful! Danny took all the credit even though all he did was chop some swede and mash the potato but I let him have his moment of glory.

After a few weeks of chaos, this weekend has given me time to relax and embrace the good things life has to offer: adorable animals, cosy nights and hearty food!
