I went to visit my Mam today, who has recently moved to Scarborough. After a lovely time at the Sea Life centre, seeing the cute lil’ otters (listed first because they are my FAVE), penguins, seals, fish and other random variations of jellyfish and other aquatic creatures, we went to a café for some fish and chips.
Before stuffing my face with a delicious haddock, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce, I was admiring the view from below. It was particularly sunny considering we are only just stepping into March; when I looked down I couldn’t believe my eyes. There was someone flying a kite!
A kite!
I feel like you never see people flying kites anymore. Surely I’m not the only one who feels this??! A wave of nostalgia consumed me as I watched the kite bob around in the breezy sea air, so simple yet so magical. I immediately felt giddy inside.
It took me back to being a child, the feeling of excitement when the wind picks up and off it goes, clinging onto nothing but a light piece of string, yet soaring around in the open sky like it has an unknown path to follow. To follow the wind. To travel that beach and look down upon the waves crashing to the shore. To scare off the seagulls trying to steal people’s food. To join in on that fun family day out.
It’s bizarre how the most random of things can brighten up your mood!
So I watched. And I smiled. And now I want to buy a kite.
